Care of your cage sets
Now that you have invested your time and $$$ finding a safe vendor to create something safe and special for your precious babies lets talk about how to care for all those pretty cage sets you now have.
First of all when you finally receive that long awaited package, no matter how trusted the vendor(myself included), closely inspect each piece for possible flaws or damage before you do anything else. We are all human and no matter how hard we try mistakes can occur that may go unnoticed. You are the last line of defense before an item goes into your babies safe space so look closely for any flaws and immediately let the vendor know if you find any flaws or receive a damaged package so they can take action. In my experience any approved vendor will be more than happy to fix a flaw in a cage piece rather than risk a potentially catastrophic injury to your furry friend. I know I certainly would prefer to make another piece instead of risk an injury to your baby.
Second- wash the cage set prior to placing in the cage. Because even though the fabrics get prewashed prior to sewing we have no idea what those packages have been exposed to while in transit to you. who knows what chemicals fumes were in the hold of the aircraft or on the tarmac while waiting to be loaded or on and on and on. So always wash before using.
How to wash : in cold water, presoak, delicate cycle, with unscented detergent. For smaller pieces you can place inside a delicates garment bag to wash. You can also add a cup of vinegar if needed for odor ( the vinegar scent will disperse while drying). Hang up to dry on drying rack ( avoid placing in the dryer as it empasizes odor and speeds up the break down of the fabric and threads). Once your fleece is FULLY dry **** INSPECT AGAIN every single time*** Before using look for loose threads, separating seams, holes allowing access into the internal layers . Basically anything besides a nice tight intact seam. I know it sounds like alot but if you get in the habit of washing in this manner it really does extend the life of your cage sets and will start to go much quicker than you think once you have the habit of doing it this way. Store in a covered container to prevent dust buildup and odor absorption.
Next enjoy those beautiful babies and how awesome their cage looks with all those cool cage sets you've spoiled them with!
